County supervisors will remain in control of Oakley’s fire station and others in the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District after Oakley officials turned down a proposal to share governance.

Unable to reach agreement with the county on a property dispute thathad been blamed for holding up a change in local fire districtgovernance, the Oakley City Council Tuesday said it was separating thetwo issues, but then backed out of the fire district plan.

This weekend’s East Contra Costa County Artists’ Open Studios Tour will give the public a peek inside the creative process of artists such as Ann Muench.

Local artists are opening up their studio doors this weekend, welcomingthe public into their creative process on a free self-guided artdiscovery tour featuring 20 artists at 10 East County locations.

Freedom senior Hunter Simpson took first place in the high jump at last weekend’s Bay Valley Athletic League Track and Field Championships, clearing a height of 6-feet, 8-inches, besting his closest competitor by 8 inches. He’s shown here clearing a height of 6-5 earlier in the season.

Last Saturday’s Bay Valley Athletic League track and fieldchampionships at De La Salle High School brought out the best in theDeer Valley girls team, which took home eight of the 16 availablefirst-place medals en route to its fifth team title in six years.
